Anchor- Mrs. Crabby

By Linda Sherwin / December 23, 2018

Some days you just feel lousy!

You wake up cranky! Everything goes wrong, and you feel like Mrs. Crabby Grumpy Grouchy Sulky – all rolled into one! And as much as you might like to just hide out from everyone, you may not be able to. This is when your “anchor” comes in very handy.

In order to find the “sense memory” that you can add your “anchor” to, does take some practice. In my workbooks, I outline the process you go through to recall all that was going on during the particular event.

It’s typically easier to start with the external factors: where you were, who were you with, why were you there, when was it, what was the weather like and even what were you wearing. Then we work on the senses: what can you see, smell, hear, touch and even taste. It’s important to recall the moment in as much detail as possible.

Then we move to the internal factors, and sometimes this is a little harder and takes some concentration and introspection. What were you thinking or feeling? Were you aware of any particular internal physical or mental sensations? Were there any emotions that were strikingly evident? By adding the internal sensations, the event becomes very real.

At this point, a word, gesture or item will come to mind. Usually, the first one is the best, but on occasion, it may take a little longer to find. By starting to re-create the event in its entirety and associating it with your anchor, you can eventually do it the other way around. The minute you say the word, make the gesture or touch the item, the sensations will come back to you, and you will have re-created the character you were in that event.

So, on those days when you feel lousy and cranky, use your anchor and get on with being the BEST you that you can be!
