“Who you are speaks so loudly, I can’t hear what you’re saying.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
What does this picture say to you?
Whether you know the circumstances or not, what does this “communication” say to you?
Notice the body language: the facial expression, the eyes, the mouth, the hand gesture. Look further at the tilt of the head, the forehead and the jaw?
This “full communication” actually has a greater impact on the viewer than the words being said. As you interact with people, become mindful of the non-communication that you observe and how it affects the message they are sending.
Does it help you to agree or disagree with them? Does it make you feel good or bad? Does it confuse you – are you getting a mixed message? Is this a miscommunication?
Then turn it around. What are YOU communicating? Is your body language congruent with your message? This will have a direct result on the success or failure of your message.
And remember, you are communicating all the time. You never know who is watching you.
To Being Heard,
Linda
